Popular studies
The Oslo School of Architecture and Design is one of Norway's most popular school, measured in the number of applicants per study seat offered.
April 20, the Norwegian Universities and Colleges Admission Service (NUCAS) published the first statistics for this years joint admission to higher education in Norway. In total, 881 applicants has one of AHOs 75 study seats as their top priority, which gives an average of 11,75 applicant per seat.
Despite that NUCAS report of an "all time high" in applications to higher education this year, the numbers show a slight decrease for AHO since 2008. The Master of architecture programme show a derease of 71 applicants, or -8,64 %, whereas the numbers for the Master in industrial design programme is 9 fewer applicants; -6,47 %.
Rector of AHO, Karl Otto Ellefsen, recons that "AHO now is back on the level of applicants we had in 2007. 2008 was an all time high for us, but now we're back to normal". He thinks the current situation in the building industry and recent media attention is partly to blame for this development. Still, he sees this as no problem for AHO nor its students: "The statistics show that application to AHO still is what other institutions may only dream about. We have a solid ground for admitting the best students, and by the time they have finished their studies in a few years time, the market will emrace them".
