Selmer exhibition in Austria
AHOs travelling exhibition on architect Wenche Selmer can be seen at the Frauenmuseum in Hittisau, Austria from 11.12.2009 until 4.04.2010.
Wenche Selmer is recognized as a pioneer amongst female Norwegian architects, and has had a huge influence both as a teacher and an architect. Selmer served as associate professor at AHO from 1976-87.
The exhibition, created by Selmes previous colleague professor Elisabeth Tostrup, shows a wide range of Selmers work. A special emphasis is given to Selmers distinctive wood summer houses, where modern comfort is blended with local, Norwegian building traditions and such make the architecture almost blend into nature.

The exhibition has been displayed in museums and institutions in and around Europe, Canada and the US. Now the exhibition has been translated into German, and has a 4 month long stay in Hittisau, Austria.
The Womens' Museum in Hittisau was founded in 2000, and is the only one of its kind in Austria. The museum's aim is to help uncover and emphasize womens history, activities and capacities.
Elisabeth Tostrup is professor at the AHO Institute of Form, theory and history. In 2002 she published the book on Wenche Selmers architecture, that parts of the exhibition is based on. In 2006 the book was published in English with the title Norwegian Wood: The Thoughtful Architecture of Wenche Selmer.
