Sailing Center, Hankø. Harbor and Club House

Semester/year: Spring 2010

Supervisors: Knut Hjeltnes og Jonas Norsted   External supervisor:  Peter Cohan, UW, Seattle.

External collaborator: Fredrikstad Seilforening.

The harbor and the new clubhouse, is developed in collaboration with the existing facilities at the site. It has been important to make room for visitors, non-sailors and local residents, despite the increased activity in the area.

The project aim is to maintain the tradition of Hankø as Norway’s sailing cradle and keep alive a historic maritime environment by expanding and densify, rather than to use undeveloped areas of the seafront.

The project has a "harbor side" in the east with mooring of boats, the launching of dinghies and rigging, while the "leisure side" in the west are subject to hang out places, swimming, fishing and contact with the fjord.

The Club House is the heart of the harbor with flexible spaces to be used by Fredrikstad Seilforening summer as winter, and to be rented out to locals. The Club House consists of two multi purpose spaces, a library and kiosk / kitchen.

The house is a place where people get closer to the water and the activity of sailing.
