AHO Guest lecture series Spring 2022, Olaf Grawert (B+), “Prefigurative Architecture, Between Fact and Fiction"

Bio Olaf Grawert:

Olaf Grawert (*1987) plans, writes and talks about architecture. He is interested in the political and economic conditions of spatial production. He works collaboratively between Berlin and Zurich, in a close network of people and institutions, developing architectural projects between theory and practice: from campaigns, exhibitions, publications and films to teaching and buildings.
Olaf is partner at 2038 and b+ (Berlin), co-editor of What is Architecture? and teacher at station+, Department of Architecture, ETH (Zurich). Together with artist and director Christopher Roth, they produced several films amongst others The Property Drama and Architecting after Politics. In 2019, he was appointed one of the curators of the German Pavillon at the 17th Venice Architecture Biennale in 2021. "2038 - The New Serenity", is a retrospective show that uses film and fiction, to (story)tell the systems behind architecture.

Bio B+ :

b+ is an architecture practice in-the-making. It is a continuation and reorientation of the collaborative practice Brandlhuber+ which is based in Berlin since 2006. The process of reorientation and new formation includes a conceptual as well as economic restructuring reacting to the changing conditions of architectural production.
b+ is, on one hand, looking into new issues and fields of practice trying to understand architecture systemically and beyond the built object. On the other hand, b+ wants to change the conditions of production in which architecture is thought and realized. In concrete terms we are asking: What are the challenges for architecture in a changing society and how can we as architects produce both ecologically and economically viable answers to these challenges?
