ReFuturing Studies Seminar on Climate Change – designing for Societal Transformation

The second theme questions 'Climate Change as we act upon it', by discussing what it implies to change the change, why we haven't been able to bend the emissions curve and how design can modify its toolset to be equipped for exploring how we enter a more long-term sustainable trajectory.

Speakers:    
1. Isaak Stoddard
Isak Stoddard is a PhD candidate in Natural Resources and Sustainable Development at the Department of Earth Science, Uppsala University. His research is currently focused on the strategies and imaginaries informing regional climate and energy transitions within Sweden. Over the past decade he has worked in various capacities at the student-initiated Centre for Environment and Development Studies (CEMUS) at the University of Uppsala and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. At CEMUS, his worked mainly focused on developing transdisciplinary approaches to higher education as a response to environmental and societal issues. Isak was also involved in the creation of a 10-year research-initiative on climate change leadership, centred around a series of visiting professorships at Uppsala University. He has an educational background in engineering physics and energy systems.

2. İdil Gaziulusoy
Idil is a sustainability scientist and a design researcher contributing into the theory and practice of design for sustainability transitions. Currently she works as Assistant Professor of Sustainable Design at Aalto University, Finland. Her previous experiences include being a Principal Researcher of Visions, Scenarios and Pathways for Low Carbon Urban Living project at Victorian Eco-Innovation Lab (VEIL) of University of Melbourne (Australia), being a lecturer in Auckland University of Technology in School of Design and School of Business  (New Zealand) delivering courses on design for sustainability and design futures, being a part-time lecturer in Department of Industrial Design at Middle East Technical University (Turkey) teaching about sustainable product-service systems and being a consultant and expert in national and international projects aiming to assist the industry in meeting regulatory and customer expectations on sustainability performance of products and services.

3. Linda Schneider
Linda is Senior Programme Officer for International Climate Policy at the Heinrich Böll Foundation’s head office in Berlin. She holds MA degrees in International Relations from the Free University of Berlin, Humboldt University Berlin and the University of Potsdam as well as a BA in Political Science from Hamburg University. Linda is active in the climate justice movement in Germany as well as the Right to the City movement in Berlin.
