Design for Social Innovation: A Maturing Global Landscape

aalto_university_mariana_amatullo_17-3-2022_photo_mikko_raskinen_0031.jpegDr. Amatullo’s teaching and scholarship are focused on the intersection of the design and management fields; Dr. Amatullo’s publications examine the impact of designers on social innovation initiatives and the role of design overall as a cognitive capability for innovation in organizations. Her latest publication, Design for Social Innovation: Case Studies from around the World (Routledge, 2021), presents a global perspective of the field. Dr. Amatullo publishes and lectures internationally about design and social innovation, serving on various executive, editorial, and advisory boards in design and the arts, including the Board of Aalto University in Finland. She is Honorary President of the Cumulus Association, a Salzburg Global Fellow, a Fellow with the Royal Society of the Arts, and the recipient of the inaugural 2012 DELL Social Innovation Award for Outstanding Social Innovation Education. Dr. Amatullo holds a Ph.D. in Management (Designing Sustainable Systems) from Case Western Reserve University; an M.A. in Art History and Museum Studies from the University of Southern California, and a Licence en Lettres Degree from the Sorbonne University, Paris, where she also studied Art History at L’Ecole du Louvre. A native of Argentina and the child of a diplomat, Mariana grew up around the world.
