Guest lecture: Paola Viganò

The works by Studio Paola Viganò cross architecture, urbanism and landscape architecture, exploring how to form and develop today’s variety of different European urban landscapes. Viganò investigates diffuse areas of suburban and periurbane landscapes, seeking readability, sustainability and beauty.
Completed works by Paola Viganò include the new Theatre Square and the Spoornoord Park in Antwerp, both prized as best public spaces in Flanders along with the construction of the City’s Structural Plan. Her studio has designed and completed a system of public spaces in Mechelen (finalist project of the European Prize of public spaces) and both the cemetery and the Grote Markt in Kortrijk. The Courrouze district in Rennes (including the implementation of the masterplan for 4500 new dwellings along with the design and execution of public spaces) is currently under completion and has won the price «Nature en ville du palmarès Ecoquartier 2011 du Ministère de l'Ecologie». The studio has worked on constructing visions for some important metropolitan areas: Le Grand Paris, métropole de l’après Kyoto, Brussels 2040, Lille 2030, and Montpellier 2040. In 2012 the Studio Paola Viganò was chosen to propose a vision on the New Moscow.

Since 2015 Studio Paola Viganò has been working on urban and landscape projects in Europe. She won the competition for the masterplan of the neighbourhood City of Science in Rome, and is currently working on: a new public park in Dessel Nuclear Research center, the Blue Park of the Eurometropolis Lille-Tournai-Courtrai,, the South-East segment of the Over De Ring project in Antwerp, and on several urban projects in France and Belgium.

From 2009 to 2017 Paola Viganò was part of the Scientific Committee of the Atelier International du Grand Paris. She won the Grand Prix de l’urbanisme 2013 and in 2018 she was one of the finalist to the Jellicoe Prize.
