Did you know that all pregnant people are entitled to knowledge-based information that allows them to make informed choices and to have a real impact on their maternity follow-up? This diploma explores information dissemination in maternity care in Norway. First time parents and pregnant people are often confused in the meeting with maternity care, while midwives and nurses lack sufficient tools to communicate between services and provide information in a fulfilling way.

This diploma is a contribution to the ongoing debate in maternity care. By using our outside perspective as designers, we elevate the experiences of pregnant women and first-time parents. We ask: How can we use storytelling to create a reflective and generative discussion around information and communication in maternity care?

By reaching out to different stakeholders at different levels in the system, we have managed to spark new ideas and interventions. With the use of storytelling and design methods, we collected experiences and shared them back with the system in a provoking way, with the intention of catalyzing movement.

To help us stimulate a generative and reflective dialogue about maternity care, we have created a booklet where we present challenges and opportunities in an actionable way. We want to tell the stories of what we have learned in a way that will inspire people to reflect, think creatively, create ideas, and prompt change.

This has led to a series of interesting conversations with committed people who like us, want to improve the care system in various ways. We hope that the perspective we bring forward through this diploma will serve as a basis for further discourse on how we can improve maternity care in Norway.
