This project is looking into the Norwegian waste management system with a product/ system/ service approach. In this work I found a possibility to utilise a part of our waste as a resource, rather than depositing it.
By using Municipal Solid Waste Incinerated fly ash(MSWI-fly ash), left over from when our unsorted trash is burnt, to make geopolymer concrete, we can reduce the needs of highly debated waste depositing and the environmental footprint of making concrete.
The project presents an alternative to the traditional cemetery, exploring a continuously increasing trend today; the scattering of human ashes. My design solution is a proposition for what a memorial site for the scattering of ashes could look like. A memorial path cast in geopolymer concrete, stretching out on the rock faces of Verdens ende, in Vestfold.
A discursive concept, inviting people to reflect on how they want their remains recycled and how they want their relatives to remember them. The project also highlights the current problems surrounding the depositing of MSWI-fly ash, presenting a commercial use of it instead.
