AHO participating at the Venice Architecture Biennale

Students, teachers and professors from AHO are displaying their project at the Venice Biennale 2018 after participating in a competition with nine other world leading architecture schools.

A small groups of teachers and students were invited by the curators from a selection among the most prestigious architecture schools in the world to propose visions for the industrial area or Porto Marghera.

- We responded by linking the project to the future of the Venice Biennale by thinking how future biennales could become tools for urban transformations, as well as the perfect excuse to propose new beautiful buildings and reuse of industrial structures, says Professors Luis Callejas from the Institute of Urbanism and Landscape at the Oslo School of Architecture.

Each school had to deliver a video of 5 minutes video proposal, as well as having a presentation and a discussion about their work.

- Together with two other schools we received a certificate of the Architecture Biennale from a prestigious and international jury.

The Architecture Biennale 2018 is dedicated to the description “the past and the future of Venice”.

- The competition aims to answer three questions: which forms are working activities destined to take? What are the relationships with space and places? And the ones with and between the workers?

AHO has a vernissage in the main exhibition attended by institute leaders, professors and students who participated in the project.

Book launch at the Venice Biennale: “Concrete Oslo”

AHO has also launched a book called ”Concrete Oslo” at the Biennale. This is a guide to concrete architecture in Oslo, which gives the reader an opportunity to explore a great number of buildings, structures and objects through curated tours across the city.

But more than mere tourist guide, this book is an opportunity to reflect upon an enigmatic building tradition and to engage with the city, in literal and physical ways. Accompanying the tours are a number of theoretical essays, original drawings, unique photos and other historic documentation, combining historical accounts and theory with 1:1 field studies.

The book springs from a master studio course, taught by the three editors of this volume, at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design, in the spring of 2015.
