Printing PhD theses at AHO

Approved thesis

When the adjudication Committee has delivered a report concluding that the thesis is found worthy of defense, the printing process can be started up. Note that the printed thesis must be identical to the one submitted for evaluation, except for the correction of minor imperfections of a formal nature. Any such corrections shall be listed in an errata list, see below. It is not allowed to replace an article published after the thesis has been submitted.

Requisition form

Before the thesis can be printed, AHO must submit a requisition form to the print shop. You will receive a draft of this, and be asked to fill out the necessary information and to sign the form. The research administration will send the form to the print shop and the printing process can begin.

Printing

Akademika Publishing Agency prints all theses at AHO. AHO orders an edition of 70 copies from the print shop. The School covers costs earmarked for printing up to a fixed amount set by AHO. If the print expenses exceed this sum, you must cover the remaining amount.

You will receive 10 free copies of the printed thesis, and you can order additional copies and pay these yourself (enter the desired number in the requisition form).

AHO recommends contacting Akademika to arrange delivery as soon as the positive evaluation report is announced. Preferably, the printed thesis should be available at least two weeks before the disputation. Before delivering the final thesis, you must carefully review the files and make sure everything is correct. This is your responsibility. The research administration will give you the name and contact information of the relevant contact person at Akademika.

NOTE: Please submit the thesis for printing as one single pdf file with a copy to the AHO research administration.

If desired, you may order a test print before the entire edition is printed. Thus you can assure that all the pages are present in the proper order, and that the quality of illustrations and the thesis generally satisfies requirements for printing. It is not permitted to make changes to the body of the thesis. The purpose of test print is to ensure the quality of the printed thesis.

ISSN, ISBN and con-text numbers

This information must be listed in the colophon (see the AHO template). You will get them from the research administration.
Cover

AHO’s information department will make the cover on the basis of material from you. Contact by email tlh@aho.no or download requirements here

Errata list

In cases where you find typos or other formal errors after the thesis has been submitted to the Committee, you have to make an errata list of all the changes made. The adjudication Committee may also point out procedural errors that should be corrected before the thesis is printed. If you write a preface that was not there in the version sent to the Committee, this should also be pointed out in the errata list. It is not allowed under any circumstances to make corrections or changes affecting the content of the thesis.

NB! The errata list must be submitted to the research administration at the same time as the thesis is sent to Akademika.

Press release

AHO’s information department can write a press release and/or news story about the thesis, based on information from you. In addition, information about the disputation will be published on the AHO website.

The information required written for a general audience, in English (and possibly Norwegian) is:
• Short summary of the thesis (maximum 25 words)
• Key findings / conclusions
• Research Area
• The thesis hypothesis
• Method and data
• Partners, collaborating institutions and the like
• Funding (NFR and the like)

Writing tip: bring out the main points first, use examples and simple language, avoid repetition. Contact Info for more tips.

Electronic publication of the thesis

It is AHO's policy that all PhD theses should be made available in the AHO publishing archive ADORA. In addition, it is mandatory to publish a summary of the thesis. It is important that you have clarified the copyright to all articles and illustrations used in the thesis before archiving. The research administration will send you a contract form which we ask you to fill out and return
