Recognition of external education

If you have completed courses at another university in Norway or abroad, you can apply to have these courses recognized as a part of your study programme at AHO.

Documentation required for the application:

When applying for recognition of a course over 10 ECTS, you must also upload the assessment work from the course, including documentation of the work process:

  • A PDF of a maximum of 10-15 pages, containing illustrations, drawings, sketches, model photos, and descriptions.


Application Deadlines

  • August 10 for first-year students
    • If you have been admitted from the waiting list, the deadline is 14 days after the admission offer.
  • Other applications are processed continuously.

Regulations for recognition
  • Recognition of master’s level courses requires that all undergraduate courses have been passed.
  • For the Master of Architecture degree, a minimum of 90 ECTS must be completed at AHO.
    • For applications for recognition and admission to the 4th year of the 5.5-year Master of Architecture degree, specific rules apply.
  • For the 5-year Master of Landscape Architecture degree, a minimum of 60 ECTS must be completed at AHO and a minimum of 60 ECTS must be completed at UiT.
    • For the 5-year Master of Landscape Architecture degree, applications for recognition of undergraduate courses (years 1-3) are handled by AHO. Recognition of master’s level courses (years 4 and 5) is handled by UiT. 
  • For the 5,5-year Master of Design degree, a minimum of 90 ECTS must be completed at AHO
  • For the 2-year Master of Design and International Master of Landscape Architecture degrees, a minimum of 60 ECTS must be completed at AHO.
Processing of recognition applications

The application is processed by the study administration. A response to the application will be available approximately 3 weeks after the application deadline.

As the process of recognition applications can take some time, you must register for courses and exams within the deadlines. The registration can be withdrawn once you receive a response to your application.
