Solveig Sandness

Associate Professor

Institute of Architecture

Solveig Sandness is an associate professor of architectural technology at the Department of Architecture at AHO. She has a master degree in structural engineering from NTNU, and has worked several years as a consultant. Between 2008 and 2018, she was a partner and general manager of eStatikk rådgivende ingeniører AS, an office that worked closely with architects to develop good architecture. Many of the projects have been published and several of them are award-winning.

At AHO Sandness is responsible for the course Materials for first-year students and Structures for second-year students. The latter course includes both statics and construction techniques. It is important that the students learn how to translate theoretical knowledge into practice in the design assignments. To contribute to this, Sandness is part of the second year team, which has urban housing as a theme in the autumn semester and a small public building in the spring semester.
Together with Professor Christian Hermansen (course coordinator), Sandness teached at the design-build course The Scarcity and Creativity Studio (SCS) from 2012 to 2020. Projects by this master course was published worldwide and the studio received several international awards and nominations. See http://scs.aho.no/ for more information.
