Join us at AHO for 'Towards New Naturehoods': presentations, film screening and discussions.
Nature is fundamental for all life forms. Yet, as a result of human action we are experiencing an unprecedented and rapid decline in nature on a global scale. To address the climate and biodiversity emergencies, we must radically rethink the way we plan, design, build and organize our cities and societies, to live within the planetary boundaries.
As part of the pre-programme for the Oslo Architecture Triennale 2025 we invite for an afternoon seminar with presentations by international and local researchers and practitioners, to explore new nature-oriented urban practices on a neighbourhood scale and beyond.
The session will explore questions such as: How do we understand and secure biodiversity in the built environment? How can we rewire the building industry for a circular future? What are the main considerations and priorities architects and designers must consider when designing for a sustainable future?
We will meet three up-and-coming European transdisciplinary practices: Franco-Dutch architecture duo Studio Acte, Polish-Danish lab Foil&Soil, and German-Austrian collective Baukreisel. They will present films about cases from their own city contexts, before engaging in a discussion with three researchers from the Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO) Violaine Mussault, Serina Tarkhanian and Alena Rieger – whose research delves into similar topics.
The seminar will end with a round table discussion moderated by Oslo Architecture Triennale Director Christian Pagh, with Q&A from the audience.
The programme is in English.
‘Towards New Naturehoods’ follows up the 2022 Oslo Architecture Triennale’s exploration of the neighbourhood as scale and horizon for rethinking the future of cities.
