Language

Language of instruction: The main language of instruction at the University of Lapland is Finnish, but there is a wide variety of courses also available in English in each faculty.

The required level of English language proficiency:

• B1 / IELTS 5 / TOEFL 75 for the Faculty of Art and Design

Students must prove their English skills (e.g. with a transcript of records, letter from the home university or official language test TOEFL IbT, IELTS Academic).
 

Which courses can I take?

The titles and content of the courses for each semester are set by the study modules and they may change from year to year.
Find the english design courses for your stay under the section “Studies in English in the Faculties”.
 

What is the duration of the semester?

Autumn semester: mid August – mid December
Spring semester: mid January – end of May
 

Accommodation

The local student housing foundation Domus Arctica (DAS) offers off-campus accommodation for both Finnish and international students. Read about accomodation in the Fact Sheet or visit the DAS office website.
 

What does it cost? 

As an exchange student you only pay the AHO semester fee. 
 

Who can apply? 

Design students who are in their 6th or 7th semester at the time of application.
