Inverted House is taking shape
The winners of this year’s LIXIL International University Architectural Competition – the AHO team behind “Inverted House” – has spent the summer in Tokyo, developing the project.
The students have been in Tokyo since May, where they are preparing the project in details together with Japanese architects from Kengo Kuma and Associates (KKAA), building engineers, climatic engineers and a local contractor.
“The project is continuously developing in terms of design details, structural requirements, local regulations and cost estimations. In this process, we are constantly working with physical models, drawings, 3D models and 1:1 mock ups. Besides weekly meetings at KKAA and the construction engineer’s offices, we are fortunate to daily use the Shibaura House as our office space”, said the students.
They have visited the site at Memu Meadows, located in Taiki-Cho, Hokkaido, where the project will be built this autumn. They have met with the local contractor, measured the building on site and looked at samples of materials to be used in the building.
Construction will start in the end of August, and the building is estimated to be finished by the end of November.
The process has so far been a unique experience for the students.
“For us it has been valuable to cooperate with the different professions such as client, engineers and contractors, while developing the project. We also consider us very fortunate to be able live and enjoy Tokyo for a while and the meeting with a new culture”.
