Master of Architecture

The Architecture program at AHO educates leading practitioners of the discipline.

The program is internationally respected and AHO is a preferred partner among the world’s leading schools. The ‘Oslo School’ represents a clear and established approach to the discipline, in which an openness to future challenges is founded upon a respect for the culture of building.

Instruction within the architecture program occurs within the studio, where an understanding of architecture is studied through project design and developed though dialog at the work table and public reviews. The program emphasizes originality, craftsmanship and the ability to communicate ideas. The program is organized around specific areas of focus that define individual viewpoints, whether through the particulars of architectonic realization, urban complexity and spatial development, theory’s critical challenge or the implicit value of the existing built environment.

The first three years (foundation level) is taught in Norwegian. It have a fixed program which aims at the development of an independent professional profile for each student based in the fundamentals of the discipline and experience with its working methods.

The foundation level qualifies students for the 2 1/2 year Master's level, where students compose their own educational trajectory from a range of studios and elective courses. The degree is attained though an individual diploma project. It is possible to apply directly into the fourth year (Master's level). This level of the degree is taught in English.
