Sabine Müller, new professor in urbanism

Sabine Müller, architect and urban designer, the co-funder and principal of SMAQ in Berlin, joined AHO in August. Before establishing SMAQ she worked for West 8 (Rotterdam) and Asymptote (New York).

"Sabine Muller has an interesting urban architecture practice, she is a very competent academic and is experienced in design-based education at several international universities", said Marianne Skjulhaug, Head of AHO’s Institute of landscape and urbanism.

"The U&L institute strives for an energetic academic environment, composed of people interested in working across the disciplines. Müller is oriented towards cooperation, international networking, bridging architecture and landscape architecture.
Sabine is an inspiration to students and has a wonderful gift for opening up and enlarging discussions".

A highway named Rio
In the spring semester of 2016, Müller takes on a project in Mexico. The course A Motorway named Rio, is open to architecture and landscape architecture students and will investigate the transformation of this motorway, built in the riverbed of a dry river – a decision now challenged by climate change, heavy rains, frequent flooding and a growing city.

"Rethinking the key infrastructure could trigger an environmentally and socially just development of this urban habitat. The students will partake in a collaborative workshop and group work in San Luis Potosí, Mexico", said Müller.
