‘I, the Designer’ is a design research project in which I explore the first-person perspective of the designer. The main ambition is to explore possibilities through which designers are enabled to respond sensibly to the design context while integrating their first-person perspective. In doing so, designers can test out their biases, making them intentionally part of the design process and creating space for subjectiveness.

The project focus is on the dynamics between the designer and the design context, specifically while engaging in participatory and co-design practices.

Freedom of movement, daily routines and social activities have a huge impact on our mental wellbeing. Many of us will in the future experience having these essential elements needed to live a fulfilling life taken away from us. Assistive devices give us the freedom to continue living our lives to the fullest. Unfortunately, some in need of assistive devices decline the offer due to fear of social stigmatization.

Shaped cups of the bra together with elastic materials provide good support. Sport mesh provides an underlay between the skin and protection, still maintaining good breathability. And a pocket for insertion of protectors, placed on the outside for easy reach creates convenient placement for protection, as not all training routines have need for use of protectors.

By identifying user needs throughout the whole journey of furniture ownership, this project aims to emphasize preventative measures against premature product discard. To then demonstrate how these insights can be directly incorporated into product development.

Music services are leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance personalization, promising users a more tailored listening experience. However, this integration of AI presents a dilemma: users struggle to express their own needs within the framework constructed by AI
algorithms.

Background
My starting point was a rising problem that I wanted to dive into with a solution that I don’t see enough. With the rapid evolution of the fast fashion industry - the piles of discarded textiles have become a common sight. Cheap prices, overproduction, and low-quality products leads to detachment from our wardrobes and a buy-and-throw-away culture. Things are being done to address this problem, like sourcing sustainable materials and addings legislations, but I wanted to explore more about the parts of the products itself.

By using speculative design principles, the research aims to conceptualize how future systems, services, and products might impact the way we interact with and preserve our digital legacies in the future.

The speculative design approach was not there from the beginning of the project. But became a necessary step in this design process. After gaining insights particularly about future technology and digital obsolescence.
