Master of Architecture

Students with a bachelor’s degree in architecture or equivalent undergraduate education of at least 3 years, may apply for admission directly into the 4th year (master's level) of the one-tier Master of Architecture programme at AHO.
For the coming academic year there are 15 places available.

Formal requirements

You need to document the following:

1. That you have equivalent to 180 ECTS with this course combination:

  • Material technology
  • ​Structural mechanics and building construction
  • Architectural history
  • Urbanism
  • Engineering/Planning/Projecting
  • Introduction to philosophy and method

Some of the subjects listed above may overlap. The requirement is that you must have completed a total of 180 ECTS. 

2. That you have satisfactory English skills.

Transcript of records from previous relevant education

Upload your transcript of records/diploma/diploma supplement from relevant, higher education (university level) (in English or a Scandinavian language). It is important that we can see which school your education is from, when you studied, what results you have and what courses you have done. If your school cannot issue a transcript of records or diploma supplement in English, you must provide an certified translation. You cannot translate the documents yourself. Please do not upload your secondary school/high school diploma. If you have done relevant courses outside your undergraduate degree, you may of course upload these.
 
If you have not completed your bachelor degree by the application deadline, supply the information you have at the time of applying, such as grade transcripts and courses in progress. Submit your final grade transcript and diploma as soon as you have them. Your degree must be completed by semester start in August.

Course description of all required courses

Course descriptions must be in English or a Scandinavian language (Not necessary with course descriptions for all courses - only for the required course combination). The course descriptions must include the number of credits awarded.

Documentation of satisfactory knowledge of English

International applicants from outside the Nordic countries must document satisfactory English skills. Documentation of satisfactory knowledge of English must be uploaded before February 1st. Make sure to plan to take the IELTS/TOEFL/Pearson in time. If you have completed an university degree (minimum Bachelor) where English was the language of instruction, you must provide documentation for this. 

CV

List your education and relevant jobs, etc. It must be in English or a Scandinavian language. There is no particular format/layout.

Digital Portfolio

The AHO Assessment Committee evaluates your portfolio. It must contain a selection of your works/projects, from studies and work experience.

Criteria’s for assessment are knowledge and sensibility towards various aspects of architecture studies, skills and variety of representation, and portfolio design: structure, length, clarity and conveying of concept rather than completed and fulfilled assignments.
There is not a minimum or maximum number of works/projects, please choose the works/projects that best represents you. The portfolio can be maximum 15 MB. Your portfolio must be uploaded as one single PDF file.

Please note: Applications with link to portfolio on a website will be considered incomplete and will not be handled.
 

Motivation letter

State the reason why you have chosen the specific Master's programme, and also why you have chosen AHO. Explain the connection to your current studies in your choice of programme; List particular area of competence reached in your bachelor education, and your proficiency in techniques, including digital tools. How will your interests and skills contribute to your success as a Master's student at AHO and what do you hope to gain by being admitted? What are your expectations for your future career and for the society where you will practice your profession?  

Max one A4 page in English.

Financial Declaration

All applicants must upload the Financial Declaration together with their other documentation in Søknadsweb.

Please mind that if you are admitted to AHO, you will be asked to document for your statement in the Financial Declaration document.

Application process

Login to Søknadsweb

Log on to Søknadsweb to register as an applicant and apply to AHO.

After registration you will receive an email with the log in credentials.

You can register your application from December 2021.

The deadline is 1 February 2022.

Incomplete applications and non-mandatory documentation will not be considered.

After the deadline

Your portfolio will be assessed by an Assessment Committee and you may be asked to do a video interview.

Response to the application will be given by April 1.

Due to the high number of applicants, refusal of application will not be justified.

Important information for students from countries outside the EU/EEA/EFTA


There is no tuition fee for applicants from EU/EEA or Switzerland, exchange students or existing students at AHO.  

In January 2023, the Norwegian Government introduced mandatory tuition fees for all students with citizenship outside of EU/EEA/EFTA. 
The tuition fee at AHO is set to 363 550 NOK per academic year. (Autumn + Spring).

Publishing the results


The result of the admission to our International Master programmes at AHO will be published in the application portal Søknadsweb.

Offer for Admission


If you have received an offer of admission, you will receive a Letter of Admission from AHO. Please remember that you must accept or decline the offer within the stated deadline. Log in to Søknadweb and electronically submit your response.
 

Waiting list


Only 20 applicants are listed in the Waiting list. If you have been placed on a waiting list, you must accept or decline this to keep your spot. Log in to Søknadweb and electronically submit your response.

Applicants will not be informed of their number in line. If a place becomes available, and you are next on the waiting list, you will receive an offer of admission. Such offers may arrive up until start of classes.
 

Not qualified


Not qualified is the same as a rejection. This result indicates that we cannot see that you fulfil our admission requirements. Either you have not uploaded all the required documentation, or the documentation you have uploaded fail to show that you are formally qualified for the programme.
 

Appeal


Appeals regarding formal errors may be put before the Appeals Board at AHO. The Assessment Committees evaluation of the applicant's skills cannot be questioned.

Appeals must be submitted within 3 weeks after receiving this letter. For further information about the rights of appeal and methods of approach in case of an appeal, please contact us.
