The Institute of Urbanism and Landscape at the World Urban Forum (WUF10)

The Institute of Urbanism and Landscape at AHO will participate at the Tenth Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF 10) in Abu Dhabi between 8-13 February 2020 and co-host the side-event 56 'Reconceptualising and responding to urban crises: Researcher-practitioner reflections on innovation, culture and transformative urban practices'.
The AHO-led session will be held on Tuesday, 11 February: 12:30 – 13:30 (GMT+4) with speakers from the Ambedkar University Delhi, the LA Network, and Global Alliance for Urban Crises members UN-Habitat, Institute of Development Studies, and the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) / NORCAP. Moderators are Lisbet Harboe (AHO) and Kristian Hoeschler (PRIO). Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) is co-hosting the event.

The session will present examples of novel practices to contend with urban challenges from Colombia, Lebanon, Jordan and India. With these cases and a panel discussion, the session seek to contextualise the different concepts of urban crisis; highlight emerging and innovative practices discussing how they address urban challenges and sustainable change; and foster exchanges between local and international stakeholders.

Accompanied by collaborating partners from PRIO and the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC)/ NORCAP, Håvard Breivik, Hanne Cecilie Geirbo, Lisbet Harboe and Morgan Ip, all at the Institute of Urbanism and Landscape, are travelling to Abu Dhabi as partners in the two cross-disciplinary and cross-institutional research projects Leaning Flexibility & DWELL, in addition to the In Transit Studio.

The World Urban Forum (WUF) was established in 2001 by the United Nations to address one of the most pressing issues facing the world today: rapid urbanization and its impact on communities, cities, economies, climate change and policies. Convened by UN-Habitat, the Forum is a high level, open and inclusive platform for addressing the challenges of sustainable urbanization. The theme of the Tenth Session is Cities of Opportunities: Connecting Culture and Innovation.
