What are the potential benefits of strengthening a nursing home’s position in the urban fabric - and how can better quality of life of elderly people be facilitated through intergenerational programs?

Nursing homes have traditionally been perceived as institutional and sterile environments, isolated from the community, and lacking the feeling of an inviting home.

This master’s thesis aims to explore a new model for nursing home architecture, one that prioritizes the holistic well-being of residents. I choose to view the nursing home as a crucial element in the city, giving it a more prominent position in society. I approach the nursing home as a community where all generations can come together by facilitating participation of all age groups to achieve an age-friendly community.
