Om emnet

The topic of this design management course is entrepreneurship and innovation. This year’s theme will be sustainability and circular economy. It will look at how to set up a sustainable business model that both brings value to shareholders and society. In this course the students will be introduced to basic entrepreneurship, design thinking, business and innovation theories and related models. The students will solve specific business challenges in teams and apply their design skills in business development.

Læringsutbytte

The students will get a basic understanding of commercialisation and how their own ideas and competencies can be used to develop new and sustainable business models. They will get basic business skills, for example the understanding of different types of business models, what sustainability is and how to develop a sustainable business model and business strategy. They will acquire an understanding into what designers and architects can contribute with in business development. The students will gain practical experience and skills through relevant tasks and cross-disciplinary workshops.

Praktisk organisering og arbeidsmåter

During the autumn semester the students will have multiple guest lectures which will share insights on topics such as sustainability, circular economy, business modelling, marketing and intellectual property rights (IPR). The students will use insights from the lectures to develop an idea into a sustainable business model. The course culminates in a one-week practical seminar, where the students will collaborate with business and entrepreneurship students outside of Oslo. The seminar will give the design students insight into business and innovation culture, methods, processes and language.
