Diplomprosjekt

Heidi Marja Komonen

The project aims to develop a design and a method for planning the landscape around a psychiatric Institution, which will benefit the patients in their recovery process from various mental illnesses.

This diploma will look closer at the relationship between the built and the natural environment that is surrounding us and how it can be designed to have positive effects on our mental state and also support healing from various mental illnesses. The site that I am working with is Åsgård psychiatric hospital in Tromsø.

The project allows for a diversity of new productive and generative natures to emerge by carbon rebalancing on a post-industrial site, while also introducing commercial, scientific, recreational and educational amenities. Throughout the project, time, climate and ecological processes inform the design outcomes.

The library’s role is to preserve and convey their collection. Today it is accessible trough events that primarily takes place in the physical library. They have a website where the collection is available. If you know what to search for.

We propose a strategy where we envision modules for content production and storytelling that can enrich the front page and give a wider and more visual view to the archive as a whole. But also other areas of the site can be enhanced with interlinked and related material.

Lämple is made for today’s working environments: at home, in the shared office or studio. It acknowledges the computer as your most important work tool and provides a beautiful beam of neutral light for tasks both on and off screen.

Its compact size makes repositioning and moving it simple. A single arm hinges both ways, while the interchangeable head rotates a full 360 degrees. Allowing to transform from downward task light into wallwasher or uplight with a simple twist. Tap the touch switch in the base to turn on and off, or hold your fingertip down to dim the brightness.

It has two physical parts, a moon phase clock anda work journal book, and three functions:

1) a new time experience of slow, stable and circular;
2) to encourage people to write down their goals and plans;
3) to make time capsules to have stage reviews.

This time experience can obscure the precise sense of time and ease the anxiety. Work journal and time capsule can help people to be more pragmatic, so that to make their career goals more feasible and practical.

One big challenge for the parents, teachers and caregivers is collaboration and communication. They often use a notebook to record the daily situation of the person with autism, exchange information and collaborate with each other. Information often get lost and can’t be exchanged efficiently through the book. This prevents them from helping the person with autism improve his/her life.

The undulating terrain facilitated the construction of an infrastructure of tanks -water bodies held by earthen embankments- to collect monsoon water runoff. Built encroachment on low grounds and tank beds has resulted to the present day problematics of urban water inundation in the city.
