Om emnet

Dette er et kurs i frihåndstegning. Studentene får korte tegneoppgaver og utvikler et eget, selvstendig arbeid som presenteres og stilles ut på slutten av kurset.

Det selvstendige arbeidet skal ta utgangspunkt i en eksisterende bygning, og innledes med tegnemessige analyser og visualiseringer av bygningen. Dette blir et springbrett for å diskutere visualisering av arkitektur, og spesielt ulike grader av abstraksjon. I renderinger, og særlig i konkurransesammenhenger, er tendensen at bygninger fremstilles hyperrealistisk og glossy. Hvilke strategier i analoge tegnemetoder og bruk av tegneverktøy er relevant for å kunne ta inn over seg materialitet, farge og tekstur? Det innledende analysearbeidet etterfølges av en utforskende tilnærming til tegning, der vi undersøker hvordan konsepter fra analysen kan videreføres i mer abstrakte, tegneriske komposisjoner. I disse tegningene legges det vekt på materialitet, tekstur og farge, samt å finne interessante sammenhenger mellom valg av tegneredskap/–metode og konsept.

Undertegnede er billedkunstner, og det er også et mål å synliggjøre ulike strategier og tilnærminger til visualisering av omgivelser/bygninger i samtidskunsten og diskutere hvilke overføringsverdier dette kan ha til studier av arkitektur.

Læringsutbytte

Ved gjennomført studium skal studenten:
- ha utviklet sine ferdigheter i å tegne på frihånd
- ha utviklet seg i å beskrive og diskutere egne og andres arbeider/prosess

- ha utviklet forståelsen for sammenhengen mellom tegnemetode/-redskap og idémessig innhold
- ha fått erfaringer med materialitet/tekstur/farge i analoge tegneteknikker, noe som kan informere videre arbeid i digitale teknikk
- ha styrket sine kunnskaper om arkitekturrepresentasjon

Praktisk organisering og arbeidsmåter

Studentene følges tett opp og det forventes derfor at kursdeltakerne setter av hele tirsdagen. Minst 80% tilstedeværelse kreves for å bestå kurset. I tillegg til praktisk arbeid med frihåndstegning kommer studentene til å presentere ideer/forbilder/arbeidsprosess for hverandre. Vi besøker også kunstutstillinger og går på atelierbesøk

The elective course will introduce approaches, concepts and skills related to information-based design. This course includes lectures and seminars focusing on introducing the practice-oriented approach pursued by the RCAT | ACDL group in conjunction with leading practices [Snøhetta, Kieran Timberlake], as well as an intense skill building boot-camp that focuses on data-collection and utilization in computational design.

The associative modelling component introduces beginners to associative design and those that already know Grasshopper to a series of generative tools within the software.

Admission to Master of Landscape Architecture program or master's level Architecture.

Om emnet

Seen from the world both Oslo and Tromsø is part of the Global North, seen from Oslo, Tromsø is part of the High North, moreover it is the Capital of the Arctic. The Global North and The High North takes as a point of departure contested landscapes in North Scandinavia to critically discuss critically contemporary landscape theory, cartography, and the understanding of place.

The objective of the course is twofold; first, it aims at giving the students a positive reading- and writing experience and an opportunity to develop their ideas textually. Second, it aims to provide an advanced introduction for students to Scandinavia's northernmost landscapes mediated by authors and lecturers with diverse northern and indigenous perspectives. Themes may range from the student’s personal encounters with North Norway, via reindeer pastoralism and competing outfield industries, to the geopolitical, ecologic, urban, and climatic significance of Artic territories.

The course will present and discuss theory that provides models to understand and interpret different perspectives on past, present and prospected futures of subarctic sea- and landscapes. Designers, architects, and landscape architects often incorporate expert knowledge from other disciplinary fields in their projects while moving seamlessly between observing, thinking, drawing, modeling, reading and writing. Focusing on reading, citing, and writing, this course relate to methods of place- and landscape analysis for landscape architects.

Læringsutbytte

The course gives situated knowledge and general overview of recent discourses of Arctic landscapes, northern social, climatic, and political contexts, and indigenous issues. The students will acquire knowledge of the politics of visual representation in the use of maps, photos, and diagrams. After the course the students will have a basic understanding of various literary genres in academic writing, and an advanced theoretic base for ‘reading’ and understanding the interconnectedness between place and landscapes in general –and in particular– northern landscapes.

Students will learn how to search for and find relevant and contextual knowledge, and train the ability to develop personal strategies to keep updated and informed as discourses and political, economic, climatic, and cultural conditions change. They will be able to distinguish between qualitative and quantitative research information, to critically analyze an academic text, and develop skills in experimentally and exploratory combining knowledge from different sources in their own academic and creative writing.

The students will develop competence in academic writing and peer reviewing, in formulating research questions, and in communicating their ideas effectively through texts. They will be trained in orienting themselves in research and development work, and in orienting themselves in research and development work within landscape architecture.

Praktisk organisering og arbeidsmåter

The first part of the course is organized as reading and writing group with lectures and/or conversations about the literature once a week. A process with individual assignments will be followed up with group discussions and individual supervision. The students are expected to participate in the discussions, and give short presentations of their texts at different stages of the writing process. At mid-term there are a full writing-week followed by an open seminar where the students present both their theoretical and graphically illustrated papers and a peer-review of one of their colleagues’ paper. By the end of the course, the students have time to rework their papers for print and final evaluation.

Pensum

Full curriculum of 15-20 texts will be made available at semester start. It will be centered on the seven texts listed here. I recommend to prepare for the course by getting orientated about Arctic issues, and to pay attention to how themes such as indigenous peoples rights to land- and seascapes, biodiversity, consequences of increased human activity, tourism, migration, resource extraction, new infrastructures, and consequences of climate change (changing weather-patterns with related geo-hazards and changing ecologies) are discussed in public media and open source publications. Om emnet

Første del av kurset består av forelesninger om og drøftinger av ulike trebyggingsteknikker og konstruksjonstyper.   Paralellt med dette bygger studentene modeller av konstruksjonsprinsipper, og/eller skriver et vitenskapelig essay om et relevant tema.  Kursets litteratur og drøftinger danner et viktig grunnlag for både artikkel og modellstudier.  Oppgavene skal leveres før fordypningsuken, og presenteres og diskuteres i plenum.   Fordypningsuken er svært intensiv og viktig på dette kurset. Da bygger vi et bindingsverksbygg eller et grindbygg i full scala.

Om emnet

This seminar will provide a structure for understanding Norwegian architecture. Students will be introduced to Norwegian architectural projects, past and present, in relation to the language and the concepts through which architecture is understood. This will be extended to provide a foundation for considering the history of Norwegian architecture and the history of the city of Oslo.

The seminar will investigate the main themes that have dominated architectural production in Norway. The course will study the relationship between Norwegian architecture and other cultural fields with the aim of highlighting how Norway has conveyed and invented its national identity through buildings. Case studies will provide the framework for students to discover how Norway’s built environment has dealt with questions of style, influence and institutional organisation.

Building on the work of previous years, students will continue to contribute to the Room of Possibilities blog that was established by Andrea Pinochet. Each student will report, in a semi-journalistic fashion, the findings of their research and analysis of chosen case study. The blog is intended to serve as resource and informal guide to Norwegian architecture for both local and vising architects and students.

During the duration of the semester students will engage with contemporary architects, historians, academics, and artists. Lectures and excursions will support and supplement students individual case study analysis.

Læringsutbytte

Participants will gain an understanding of the evolution of the architectural thought and practice within the Norwegian context.

Participants will be introduced to scholarly practices such as conducting interviews, academic writing, working with archives and building analysis.

Students will learn to identify a topic of interest and synthesise material in order to produce a concise report.

Students will experiment with different media and engage in the production of a shared knowledge based resource.

Praktisk organisering og arbeidsmåter

Excursions will be planned for most meetings and will take place in the Oslo metropolitan area. Lectures will supplement the field trips and provide necessary background information. The weekly programme for this course will be structured in two parts. Seminar meetings will be held in the morning and excursions will take place in the afternoon. Local architects and other school faculty will regularly join the field trips.

Field trips and outdoor visits will be carried out regardless of weather conditions. Students are responsible from dressing accordingly. Warm and waterproof clothing is recommended, especially in the second half of the field trip schedule.

Students are responsible for their own transportation arrangements and bringing any necessary documentation and equipment.

Students are expected to attend all meetings and be active contributors and participants.

Om emnet

OCCAS Moving Monuments: Rome tilbyr et bredt anlagt studium av historiske monumenter. Kurset lærer deg om bygningene, men også om de teknikkene og tilnærmingene som kreves av en forsker.

På begynnelsen av kurset velger du et monument med tilknytning til Roma som du jobber med gjennom semesteret. Parallelt arrangerer OCCAS en seminarserie ledet av seks lærere som i tur og orden presenterer ulike tilnærminger til arkitekturforskningen og som til sammen loser både deg og monumentet ditt gjennom historien – og historien gjennom dens mange medieringer.

Betegnelsen «moving», eller «forflytning», refererer til bygg som transporteres men også til sirkuleringen av monumenter i ulike medier og materialer, museer og modeller, begreper og bevaringsstrategier. En ekspertgruppe bestående av Tim Anstey, Inga Bostad, Mari Hvattum, Mari Lending, Victor Plahte Tschudi og Even Smith Wergeland går altså sammen for å lære deg ikke bare om monumentene men også om metodene som gjør at vi kan tenke, skrive og snakke om dem.

Læringsutbytte

Læringsutbyttet er dobbelt. For det første tilbyr Moving Monuments inngående kunnskap om bygninger (primært i Roma) og om de ulike mediene som bygninger formidles via, fra bilder til begreper. Men kurset handler også om å utdanne forskere og introduserer deltagerne til temaer relatert til hermeneutikk, arkivforskning, billedanalyse, og teksttolkning. Målet er studenter som behersker et helt register av faglige perspektiver til hjelp i muntlige og skriftlige presentasjoner.

Praktisk organisering og arbeidsmåter

Kurset er strukturert som en serie mini-seminarer ledet av OCCAS’ faglærere. Ett av seminarene finner sted i Roma, de øvrige på AHO og alle består av forelesninger og workshops. Studentene får tre skriftlige oppgaver relatert til «sine» monumenter som legges frem i månedlige kollokvier og diskuteres i plenum. Parallelt arbeider hver og én med sine presentasjoner under individuell veiledning.

Kurset er obligatorisk for første året for studenter i master landskapsarkitektur. Det er åpent for andre studenter på masternivå.

Om emnet

Norsk landskapsarkitektur har i de siste årene produsert en rekke prosjekter med høy kvalitet I en voksende disiplin og profesjon. Hagekunstens og landskapsarkitekturens historie, med fokus på geografi, paradigmeskifte, folkehelse, har landskapsarkitektur vokst til en viktig profesjon i en tidsalder med store problemer. Landskapsarkitekturen har verktøyene til å løse mange av verdens problemer.

Studentene vil bli introdusert gjennom mange aspekter av historisk og samtidig landskapsarkitektur, både innenlands og utenlands, samt hvordan teorier og metoder de siste årenes innflytelse på urbanismen og realiserte prosjekter gjennom bedriftsbesøk og prosjektbesøk i Oslo.

Læringsutbytte

Studentene skal forstå hvordan økologiske og infrastrukurelle faktorer former og danner premiss for bylandskapet, samt å få en bred kunnskap om landskapsarkitekturens temaer og konsepter.

Kurset inneholder 7 forelesninger med forelesere fra instituttet og 3 forelesninger med eksterne skandinaviske landskapsarkitekter, samt 1 avsluttende seminar. Forelesninger vil fokusere på spesielle temaer i landskapsarkitekturen: gatetrær, parker, gater, plasser, vann, skinner, hagekunstens historie, samtidslandskapsarkitektur osv.

A4-sida skal inneholde en tegning med en tekst, men ingenting hentet fra internett. De 10 oppgavene fra høstens produksjon samles i ett dokument for innlevering.

Fordypningskursuken er 6 – 12. november = fordypningsuke og avslutning for fordypningskurs ved Giambattista Zaccariotto.

Om emnet

Skriveøvelser gir en innføring i å iaktta og beskrive omgivelser, rom, arkitektur og design, og en introduksjon til akademisk håndverk og ulike akademiske, kunstneriske og stilistiske genre. Gjennom studier av tekster, bilder, filmutsnitt, objekter og rom skal vi lese og tolke objekter, materialer og omgivelseskvaliteter. Bakgrunnsmaterialet kan være litterært, dokumentarisk eller teoretisk, og hentet fra filosofien eller historien, fra romaner, poesi, billedkunst eller museumssamlinger. Skriveøvelsene er ment å åpne opp en verden der arkitektur og design sees innenfor en litterær, historisk og kunstnerisk sammenheng.

Læringsutbytte

Kunne beskrive rom, arkitektur og objekter fra filmer, kunstverk og litterære verk. Studentene læres opp i å beskrive arkitektur og design i en rekke genre, og skriveøvelsene er innretttet mot å høyne genreforståelse og -kompetanse.

Praktisk organisering og arbeidsmåter

Hver mandag får studenten utdelt en tekst, et bilde, en film, e.l. Oppgaveformatet vil variere fra uke til uke, men besvarelsen vil normalt bestå av en tosiders tekst. Besvarelsen skal vanligvis lastes opp på Moodle før midnatt søndag og presenteres i plenum i seminaret mandag morgen kl. 11.00. Hver oppgavetekst inneholder detaljert instruks om hva som skal leveres og hvordan. Kurset er ikke forelesningsbasert men tar utgangspunkt i tekstpresentasjoner, diskusjoner og samtaler. Etter respons fra faglærer og medstudenter skal du revidere besvarelsen din. Mot slutten av semesteret skal alle besvarelsene samles i en innbundet bok som leveres til avtalt dato. Endelig eksamen foregår etter jul. Sensuren er muntlig og basert på det innleverte materialet.

Architectonic Typologies is guest professor master studio, chair ‘Space and Technique’, concerned with exploring ideas about architectonic space and different techniques of making these ideas possible as real everyday architecture. Technique should be understood here in its double meaning, as tools for imagining and representing spatial ideas and as technical know-how to make them physically present as real architectonic qualities. It is a project oriented studio, where architecture is thought through designing it. In the studio, we are studying different architectonic typologies and themes, apartment houses, museums and galleries, schools, kindergartens, big and small offices, farms, infrastructures, landscapes and urban spaces, and we are working with restore projects – the structures of different scales and meaning that embody the essence of an architectonic space. We understand the process of design as a research into the nature of architecture.

The studio is a collaborative studio, inviting the most interesting international architects, high level academicians and practitioners, to investigate and renew together with us the methods and representational tools for teaching and production of architecture. http://www.romogteknikk.aho.no/

The project Architectonic Typologies will be dealing with creating buildings and spaces, starting with the study of the most elementary architectonic elements and typologies, like walls, floors, roofs, windows, courtyards, towers, columns, beams, concrete, timer, etc.

Each student will develop his own theme on the base of his understanding of these elements, which will be the inspiration for further development of the project. All the parameters of the project, like the site, or no-site, the program and the scale will be chosen individually by each student. The choices will be discussed collectively in the studio.

Læringsutbytte

1. Formulating the independent and prejudice-less thinking about architecture and working with its constituent elements, space structure, site, program, façade, building materials, etc.

2. Stimulating the individual awareness of today’s positions in architecture

3. Stimulating the awareness of one's own architectural position and one's own attitude toward the work with architecture

4. Benefit from the work with a foreign guest-teacher and from the confrontation with his architectural thinking, knowledge, experience and imagination.

After finishing the course, the student should:

- be able to develop and consciously use his/her own working method

- be able to argue for an individual and specific statement about his/her design aims. This statement is important as starting point, but also as benchmark of every architectural project.

- be able to develop principles for structuring of both basic and complex architectural material and technical skills to develop it into a final project

- be able to develop and structure the architectural knowledge on the base of specific project themes chosen to work with during the studio

- be able to learn how to creatively use architectural research in the work with architecture.

- be able to present and communicate his/her architectural ideas and his/her final project through the appropriate forms of representation, with drawings, models, diagrams, photos, 3Ds, etc.

Praktisk organisering og arbeidsmåter

The main aims of teaching in the studio will be:

- to create motivation to the analytical thinking and the causal architectural expression

- to stimulate, cultivate and articulate personal discussions with teachers, as well as open public discussions within the studio, on the development of the projects

The teaching will consist of the work in the studio, the individual discussions and desk crits, case studies, public discussions, seminaries, films and lectures structured in-between 3 public reviews.

The work will be conducted in 4 steps with three interim reviews plus the final review. On these occasions students have to present the state of their work in a consistent and convincing way. The duration of each step will be approximately 1 month, ending with a public presentation and discussion/critique of the individual work.

Work load will consist of:

- texts, drawings and models, digital and hand-produced, in different scale, photographs and 3D illustrations

- the prepared public discussions and reviews of the individual work

- the final project will be presented with photos, texts, drawings, models and 3D renders

Kommentar:	A sensor will evaluate the final papers. The teacher will evaluate the student’s personal progress and oral participation in discussions throughout the semester. English reading and academic writing skills, as well as knowledge of Arctic conditions may be unequally distributed in the student group when we start the semester, willingness to help each other with overcoming obstacles will be taken into consideration in the evaluation.
